In 2024, LG intends to prove that who can do more can do less. Indeed, the South Korean manufacturer has lifted the veil on its new OLED TVs at CES: the smallest measure 42 inch diagonal, while the largest in measure 97.
With its 107 cm diagonal, the LG OLED42C2 is the manufacturer’s smallest 4K OLED model. For its part, the LG OLED97G2 and its 246 cm diagonal is the largest : it beats the 88-inch model presented by the brand in 2018, and which displayed a definition of 8K at the time.
The two ranges of televisions that mark the CES on LG’s side are therefore on one side the LG OLED C2 and the LG OLED G2. The C2 collection includes models of 42, 48, 55, 77 and finally 83 inches. These TVs are equipped withan OLED Evo panel, which was already topical in its G1 range sold last year. For its part, the G2 collection, available in diagonals of 55, 65, 77, 83 and 97 inches, takes an Evo “Brightness Booster” OLED panel, which benefits from optimized brightness, which can range above 1000 nits. What offer an even more realistic rendering in 4K on these new very high-end televisions.
Inside these different screens, a brand new processor, the 5th generation LG Alpha9, will be there to optimize the scaling of content in 4K, with algorithms close to those announced by Samsung a few days ago, with a view to adjusting the elements present in the different plans of the picture. LG’s new processor is therefore capable of achieving a upscaling 4K using machine learning processes.
The sound part is not forgotten with a switch from a virtual 5.1 mix to a 7.1.2 surround, something to please those who do not particularly want to invest, in addition, in a home cinema system.
If LG presents its televisions as perfect models for playing video games, it is far from coincidence. Indeed, its different models support Nvidia G-Sync and AMD FreeSync Premium, and manage the VRR. The HDMI ports present in the various models are, for the most part, 2.1 models, which allow you to play in 4K at 120 FPS with compatible games on the latest generation consoles.
Not insignificant also, the version of WebOS which equips the LG C2 and LG G2 embeds a new Game Optimizer menu which offers many presets for different types of games (FPS, RPG, RTS) as well asa “dark room” mode, to optimize the contrasts of the screen in a room where the light is off. Remember that LG made, in 2024, its most recent televisions compatible with Nvidia GeForce Now and Google Stadia: enough to play on many platforms, whether physical or streaming.
The LG C2 and LG G2 ranges will hit the market during the year 2024, without a specific date at the moment.
