We already told you about it at the beginning of November: Squid Game, the real bombshell phenomenon series of the new school year, would have the right to a season 2. Today, it would be a season 3 that would be discussed for Netflix and Hwang Dong-hyuk. In an interview with South Korean broadcaster KBS, the Season 1 director touched on the matter:
I am in discussions with Netflix for a season 2 but also for a season 3. We will reach an agreement in the near future.
It is therefore the first time that a third season evoked for Squid Game, even though the second season should not arrive anytime soon. Negotiations that probably take time to redefine the terms of his contract: last October, Dong-hyuk had indicated that he had not received any bonus afterwards. to the success of Squid Game. He even said “not to be so rich”.
Because yes, things can change since Hwang Dong-Hyuk was, at the base, not very enthusiastic about a season 2 for Squid Game. In previous interviews, he had viewed the writing of the first season as mentally and physically taxing to the point of losing teeth.. He then explained that he was considering the idea of a second season but first wanted to focus on his own projects: “There is a movie that I really wanna make“He said then. And obviously, the tide has turned since Hwang Dong-Hyuk already has ideas in mind for season 2. The latter would revolve around the winner of the Squid Game and its 45.6 billion won (34 million euros).
As a reminder, Squid Game tells the story of 456 financially precarious South Koreans who are invited to participate in a competition to win the jackpot. Participants must pass children’s events, under penalty of death, and the survivor wins the jackpot. A concept that has won over Netflix users en masse since Squid Game has been watched over 1.6 billion hours in the first four weeks of its launch.
