Russell Lees dies: Assassin’s Creed license loses one of his creative talents

Russell lees has indeed exercised his talents at Ubisoft Montreal, while writing several narrative arcs for Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, as well as the DLC The Wrath of the Druids and The Siege of Paris. As a writer and narrative designer, the man was also instrumental in the development of Assassin’s Creed Origins and the three-part The Tyranny of King Washington expansion for Assassin’s Creed III. Outside of the Assassin’s Creed license, Russell Lees has also written for Watch Dogs 2 and Far Cry New Dawn. Ubisoft Montreal remains the place where the creator has worked the longest, it is more than 13 years who conclude a career in video games that began long before.

During a two-year period with Pandemic Studios, Russell Lees wrote Full Spectrum Warrior: Ten Hammers in 2006. He also wrote and directed the point-and-click horror adventure The Dark Eye developed by Inscape in 1995, adapted from the works ofEdgar Allen Poe and during which William S. Burroughs (a multifaceted man who has notably been a writer and artist, in addition to various collaborations in the field of music or film) lends his voice in a performance that Lees recorded himself. Outside of the world of video games, Russell Lees was also a successful playwright and director.

The tributes addressed to the deceased were numerous, in particular by the means of Twitter. The narrative director of Far Cry 6, Navid khavari, so put it, describing Lees as a man “always so kind, generous and an incredibly sharp writer” and that it was “an absolute pleasure to work with him”. Darby McDevitt specifies that “all those who worked with him will attest to his patience, his generosity, his passion and his brilliant mind”.
