Amazon launches The Green Knight At the start of the year, a Fantasy film broadcast exclusively on the Prime Video service invites us to follow an adaptation of a 14th century chivalry novel, from the universe of King Arthur’s Knights of the Round Table. In The Green Knight, Gauvain / Sir Gawain (historically knight and nephew of Arthur, here played by actor Dev Patel) is present as the Green Knight comes to the king’s court in order to challenge the sovereign. “The Green Knight” then proposes to Arthur to designate someone to cut off his head. Only, the executioner will be inflicted the same fate a year later. Gauvain asks to take on this task, but the Green Knight surprises everyone: he is still alive and leaves with his own head. Gauvain must then leave for a long journey strewn with pitfalls and trials, which we will follow during the 2h10 that the film directed by David Lowery (The Old Man and the Gun, A Ghost Story) lasts. In addition to Dev Patel who plays Gauvain, are in the cast Joel Edgerton (here King Arthur), the actor who distinguished himself in The King in 2019, as well as Alicia Vikander, the actress we saw in Beckett in particular and Blue Bayou this year.

New Amazon Original Content, The Tender Bar is Geoges Clooney’s latest film, on the directorial side. The actor notably known for his roles in the series Emergencies, the Ocean’s saga (Eleven, Twelve, Thirteen) and more recently Midnight in the Universe (The Midnight Sky), again passes to the other side of the camera. The Tender Bar is based on the autobiography of JR Moehringer, a Pulitzer Prize-winning novelist and journalist for writing news articles. The film tells the story of the writer’s youth, through the many moments he spent in the bar of a man with whom he will forge bonds close to those of a father and his son. If Ben Affleck (The Last Duel, Deep Waters) and Christopher Loyd (Doc ‘in the Back to the Future saga, Nobody) give each other a line in this adaptation of JR Moehringer’s memoirs, this is not the first time that the the writer’s pen is used in the cinema. Indeed, following the writing of an article for the Los Angeles Times Magazine devoted to a homeless person who claimed to be the boxer Bob Satterfield, a film adaptation was conceived. Entitled “Resurrecting the Champ”, this film was directed by Rod Lurie and starred Samuel L. Jackson, Josh Hartnett and Alan Alda.
