Tencent Holdings announcement had acquired Turtle Rock Studios. An acquisition of choice, since the studio has already shown its know-how several times with titles such as Left 4 Dead, Back 4 Blood or Evolve.
If the amount disbursed has not been communicated, this buyout already seems to delight both parties.
We all look forward to join the Tencent studio family. Tencent’s exceptional partners, global reach, deep gaming knowledge and unparalleled support will help us to create the kind of ambitious games we dream of, while allowing us to maintain our autonomy and our spirit of independence.
Steve Goldstein, President and CEO of Turtle Rock
We are great fans of Turtle Rock games, in particular their amazing approach to creating cooperative online games. We can’t wait to find out what they’re up to next, and are excited to be a part of their future.
Eddie Chan, Strategy Director at Tencent Games Global
It’s a important new acquisition for Tencent, after having bought studios like Riot Games or Sumo Digital, and having acquired shares in leading publishers like Epic Games, Activison, DONTNOD, Ubisoft, etc …
The purchase appears to be currently irrelevant for Back 4 Blood players. Turtle Rock claims to maintain complete independence in its work, starting with ongoing development for new content in Back 4 Blood. Turtle Rock will indeed remain in California, with the same leaders (Phil Robb and Chris Ashton) and the game will remain published by Warner Bros.
As a reminder, Back 4 Blood was released on October 12, on PC, PS5, Xbox Series, PS4 and Xbox One.
