Awake is a science fiction film with a basic pitch that could not be more straightforward. Humanity is deprived of its electronic devices and of its sleep following an unprecedented disaster. Jill, ex-soldier and heroine, is the only one who holds the key to saving the world. This solution is his own daughter. A real race against the clock will then begin, but the difficulties are considerable. She must protect her daughter from a population that has gone completely mad while trying not to succumb to growing madness herself.
It may seem surprising to mention Aya and the Witch. After all, we’re still talking about Ghibli in directing, the studios behind Spirited Away, My Neighbor Totoro, and more. However, it is the reality, this film was very badly received as well by the public as by the press. This martial arts follower plays here a former secret service agent who will have to resume service. This decision is due to the fact that her son is wanted by the French authorities for a crime he did not commit. But there are two concerns: he has never spoken to his son and the situation he finds himself in is caused by the Mafia on one side, and a corrupt bureaucrat on the other. Our hero’s mission will not be easy.
