This is a license that I was desperate to see again one day. Mentioned at length, STALKER 2 was more like the Arlesian than the real project. But the sequel to this atypical game that marked its time will indeed be a reality. I have a lot of hope for this game, which seems to capture – based on the little information we have at the moment – the essence of the original game. But despite everything, the need to open up to a new audience could upset the rough mechanics, but which made the charm of the original STALKER. I therefore hope that the saga will not take a “Metro” turn and that this game with a heavy atmosphere will remain, mixing horror, survival, exploration and RPG. Anyway, and in accordance with what we could expect from a game developed by CSG Games, the technological showcase side of the game should be there and guarantee us a beautiful immersion in desolate landscapes.

Somerville is one of the games that appealed to me the most at E3 2024. The atmosphere it gives off makes me want to know more. In the unveiled trailer, we see a family trying to survive what appears to be an alien invasion on our good old blue planet. Except that rather than going for the slobbery action side as we see it regularly in the world of video games, the developers of Jumpship have chosen the escape, which gives a side “War of the Worlds” to the creation. The sequences presented were reminiscent of Inside, and for good reason, the studio co-founder is none other than Dino Patti, former co-founder of Playdead. Written and directed by Chris Olsen, the app should mix adventure, platform and puzzle. The studio assures that it will not be a disguised Inside, and that the concept will go much further than what has been shown so far. Maybe the little indie slap of 2024 is getting ready here! The title will be available in the Game Pass from the day of its release.

If the date of some games, such as Hollow Knight: Silksong, is slow to arrive, I suggest you look even further. Does Earthblade speak to you? It is the next game from the studio Extremely Ok Games, previously Matt Makes Games, behind TowerFall Ascension but above all Celeste, the extraordinary platform game released in 2018. For the moment, we do not know anything about the title, except that it’s “a 2D action exploration game set in a pixel art world,” as the team describes it on their official website. The only image so far unveiled shows a girl in the middle of an organic, near-alien setting. A bit of a special taste, just like the “exploration” and “action” orientation of the project, like a kind of mix between the studio’s first two projects. I hope with all my heart that we will have news of the title in 2024. I had found Celeste incredibly touching, with a crazy finesse in terms of its gaemaplay and its themes. A real little revelation. After that, it is not said that we hear about Earthblade in 2024. In the last blog post of Extremely Ok Games, the team indicated that they are working on the introduction of the game, at a “slow and steady” pace. to avoid the slightest pressure or crunch. Maybe we’ll have a gameplay video for this year 2024.

Metro didn’t invent the “depressive FPS from the East” genre. Before him, STALKER already posed its dismal atmosphere and offered us to survive in the Chernobyl zone. We must admit: this sequel is as unexpected as it is interesting, and seems to be on the right track. The gameplay demo released a few months ago reassured me on an essential point: the game is of a confusing beauty and seems, above all, to achieve a deadly atmosphere as I like them. I now hope that it will offer the right mix between FPS, survival, RPG and horror. All that remains is to hope that the writing is of good quality and that the game comes out without (too many) bugs.

The following game should appeal to martial arts enthusiasts who grew up with Bruce Lee and Jackie Chan as a model, for two reasons. SIFU is developed by Sloclap studios to whom we owe Absolver. In addition, the title is openly inspired by Hong Kong cinema, of which the Golden Harvest was the spearhead in the 70s and 80s. For that alone, this Beat’em All deserves our full attention, but that’s not all. The Parisian creatives made sure that the fights were as technical as they were rewarding. The latter transpose the technicality and violence of martial clashes, levers in hand, during a vengeful epic that sees his hero grow old after each death thanks to a magical medallion. SIFU seems to want to be efficient in the image of the cinematographic productions on which its very concept is based. With SIFU, “I know Kung Fu”.

After having served us two first successes in full motion video, Her Story and Telling Lies, Sam Barlow is working on a third more mysterious proposition which is based on this scenario: Presented as a movie star, Marissa Marcel starred in three films that are not finally never came out. And then it completely disappears from the surface. The game will allow us to explore the three lost feature films made in three very distinct periods. Ambrioso, from 1968, is an adaptation of the novel The Monk by MG Lewis; Marisa plays the terrible Mathilde there. Minsky, produced in 1970, is a thriller that centers on the death of a famous artist and the muse suspected of having killed him. Finally, Two of Everything, shot in 1999, talks about the duality between a pop star and his understudy. For now, only these few details are available for this title expected somewhere in 2024. But knowing the work done by Barlow as a freelance, the discovery may be very interesting.

In early access since 2024, Baldur’s Gate III should see a final release in 2024 according to Larian, studio behind the project which has recently become known following the success of the last two Divinity: Original Sins. And when you see the work done in the first act, you can’t wait to see the result. Whether in terms of writing or game mechanics, the title promises to be a resuming C-RPG experience, especially thanks to its combat system that plays on verticality. Finally, we also hope that the title is a good introduction to the universe of Dungeons and Dragons in order to attract a new audience.
