In 2019, the Bordelais from Asobo (the developers of Microsoft Flight Simulator, yes) surprised everyone with A Plague Tale Innocence, an adventure and action game focused on infiltration: it was a reminder of ‘a dark journey set in the middle of medieval times, where the young Amicia was to escort her little brother Hugo through France ravaged by the Hundred Years War… and the Black Death.
With a beautiful writing and an authentic recreation tinged with fantasy, the game had been particularly well received by critics and players, who saw in it a certain potential for a franchise in the making. The French studio was obviously well aware of this and quickly got down to a sequel namede A Plague Tale: Requiem, announced months ago and shown again last night at the Game Awards 2024. The new, freshly released trailer is available above.
This new trailer thus allows us to put a first foot in the atmosphere of this already eagerly awaited sequel: once again, the title will interfere with us in a powerful atmosphere, swirling between the sheer horror of an indefatigable epidemic and the admirable landscapes of an attractive base Europe.
We will play Amicia again, who for the occasion has gained experience and will be able to use new tools to defeat adversity : we can thus note the crossbow or bladed weapons, as well as the return of the slingshot that our heroine begins to handle like no one else.
As far as they are concerned, the rats will be back again and will prove to be more than just a storytelling element since it is an integral part of the gameplay and of the level design: those who have already tried their hand at the first game will see very well what it is.
A Plague Tale: Requiem is due out in 2024 on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X | S and Nintendo Switch. Suffice to say that we will monitor it closely.
