Nintendo Switch Online: New features on the Sega Megadrive

Nintendo Switch

Launched on October 26, 2024, the paid Nintendo Switch Online additional pack promised access to a catalog of games from the Sega Megadrive console. This partnership echoed Nintendo’s desire to give a second youth to retro titles via emulation, a wish initiated by the arrival of great classics from the Japanese firm, in particular with a pack of NES games in 2018. More recently, Ocarina of Time, Mario Kart, Super Mario and Starfox, the shooter that had a redesign on 3DS, also made their debut on Nintendo Online.

Not long ago, Nintendo announced this time the arrival of Banjo-Kazooie N64 in the Additional Pack catalog in January 2024. With this game initially developed by the Rare studio, Nintendo signs a new partnership with Microsoft. In this month of December, five titles appearing on the Mega Drive will add to the list of games available through the Additional Pack, bringing the total to 19 games.

With these additions, there are various games on the program. Thunder force ii is a shooting game in which you pilot a spaceship in order to face hordes of flying enemies. Action and platform game, ToeJam and Earl invites us to follow two aliens whose spaceship accidentally crashes on Earth after being struck by a meteorite. Sword of Vermilion is a role-playing game in which your character must find the eight rings of Good in order to save his world. Dynamite Headdy features a toy that has the particularity of fighting with its removable head, in a cartoonish platform game where we must defeat the evil Dark Demon who tries to transform the city’s toys into minions in his pay. And finally Altered Beast which is a beat’em all inspired by Greek mythology, in which we play as a hero resurrected by Zeus in order to come to the aid of his sister Athena and face hordes of living dead and demons. There is something to satisfy retro gaming enthusiasts from all walks of life.
