In the intro, we were talking about people who know a little about PC. But keep in mind that most people don’t know what the point of a 1ms response time, 144Hz panel, 27 inch size, or other larger technology is. or less complex. We will go into more detail below.
For now, rest assured: the G5 is a benchmark, a best seller acclaimed by independent tests and by players. In terms of value for money, this screen is a pretty complicated champion to beat.
The comfortable 27-inch size is a new standard, a bit larger than conventional 24-inch screens. Right now, the 27-inch Samsung Odyssey G5 is $ 239 instead of $ 299 on Amazon. Let’s be transparent: there seems to be € 9.90. But even adding that sum, we didn’t find the G5 cheaper elsewhere.
Note that to achieve this super attractive price, you need to play Samsung’s cashback offer (called ODR). An ODR is a promo that is not applied by merchants but directly by manufacturers, here Samsung. You just have to fill out a small form on the official website providing proof of purchase of your G5 and the Korean giant will send you a transfer of 40 € some time later.
Announced at CES 2024, Samsung’s range of Odyssey gaming screens, made up of the G5, G7 or even G9, quickly established itself among gamers. As the range is intended for all players and all games, from the most casual to the most demanding, no compromise has been made. The first choice was therefore to offer curved screens for everyone with a radius of curvature that is now classic in this type of product known as 1000R (R for radius and 1000 for 1000mm of curvature). This is basically the best curvature to stay in the human field of vision and thus provide the most immersive experience possible. In order to guarantee a good compromise between consumption, price and utility, the resolution is of the WQHD type, i.e. 2560 * 1440 (1440p) on a VA panel. It is not 4K but on such screen sizes 4K is of no real interest. Finally, with a refresh rate of 144Hz, which is now the standard for gaming screens, and a response time of 1ms, you will have no problem with image retention or fluidity. Say goodbye to old 60Hz screens, once you’ve tasted 144Hz you can’t do without it.
To see the tests right to left, the Odyssey G5 has no major flaws to note. In addition to the characteristics listed above, we will note full compatibility with AMD’s Freesync Premium to reduce lag, HDR technology for better color rendering, an HDMI 2.0 port, a Display Port 1.2 and finally a headphone jack.
