Even though it was released in 2018, God of War still looks great from start to finish on both PS4 and PS5. But the title of Santa Monica is simply splendid on PC. Obviously, being able to take full advantage of a 4K definition that takes without flinching, depending on your specs, 60 fps and more is already an additional comfort compared to the console versions. But the more subtle improvements are perhaps the ones that make the game more sublime when taken as a whole. With very high resolution shadows, more precise reflections, the presence of DLSS and FSR to combine definitions and performance in a transparent way for the player, God of War PC version is an iteration that has fully understood its support.
On the gameplay side, God of War PC is identical to the original version and above all, does more honor to its new support. Indeed, for the incorrigible of the keyboard mouse who would see a sacrilege to connect a controller on their tower, know that the configuration of the keys is very well thought out. Centered on a small portion of the keyboard, all the actions are linked in a natural way and will allow you to take full advantage of the very many combos that can be achieved in game. space triggers a dodge instead of a jump over an obstacle, but it’s still occasional enough not to be frustrating. In short, God of War is completely playable without a controller, even if dodging itself is not necessarily the most practical in this configuration.. Finally, regarding the scenario, know that this God of War is undoubtedly the most narrative of all the episodes of the saga. Built around the relationship between Kratos and his son, the adventure of this opus is particularly rich in twists and turns out to be captivating from start to finish. However, a small clarification is in order. If you’ve never had the opportunity to play God of War and are discovering Kratos for the first time, the storyline of this game will lose some flavor. Certainly, you will have no difficulty understanding the specific issues in this episode, but will undoubtedly have more difficulty in perceiving the many allusions to the previous parts. The funniest or even the most dramatic and intense moments of the game are much more tasty and poignant if you already know the story. Kratos having fled his past, which will inevitably end up catching up with him, knowing about it is more than recommended to savor all the rather heavy unsaid and better understand why Kratos is the sullen character he is today. However, even if you don’t want to do a remedial lesson before you start, you will be able to fully appreciate the dialogues, the story from Norse mythology and all the staging that results from it.
By succeeding in its passage on PC, God of War, identical to the original version, but more beautiful, has still not aged and that is why we again give it the maximum score. If you discover the game for the first time, you will certainly not have the same emotional relationship with the characters as if you are a veteran of the saga, but all the same. God of War remains a great action game, very generous, beautiful, thrilling.
