It was during the CES, Consumer Electronic Show, that the PSVR 2 has been formalized. Annual meeting of the players in the electronics industry, it is on this occasion that Jim Ryan unveiled the new virtual reality system of PlayStation. A speech which made it possible to officially give the name of PSVR 2 to this new system, and to present the technical specificities of the helmet but also of the controllers. Among them, we note that the majority of rumors about him were true: panels that provide 4K HDR, 110-degree field of view and a refresh rate between 90 and 120 Hz.
However, there are still significant unknowns: the price and the output have still not been communicated by Sony, like the design of the headphones. Another major element missing is the compatibility with the games of the first PSVR of the name which has not been mentioned.
As mentioned below, it is still not known if this PSVR 2 will be compatible with the games of the old generation, that is to say of the first PSVR. However, Jim Ryan sees virtual reality as a huge strategic opportunity and that they “want to continue to provide a high level gaming experience to entertain the community.”
Comments that they then confirmed by unveiling a brand new game named Horizon: Call of the Mountain. It is a game cut for the PSVR 2 in the universe of Horizon: Zero Dawn and Horizon: Forbidden West but with a completely original story. The female voice, present in the short teaser at the end of the video, is not Aloy’s … although it will appear in the game. Horizon: Call of the Mountain will be released on PSVR 2, only compatible with the PS5, at a date which is therefore still unknown. We can take our troubles patiently from February 18, with the release of Horizon: Forbidden West on PS4 and PS5.
