The big mess. In 2015, an anonymous studio released a funny PT on the PlayStation Store, a first-person game unknown to everyone and which had caused a stir: not only because that he was absolutely terrifying while being expertly overpowered, but also because once finished, it led to the announcement trailer for the upcoming Silent Hill game, of which it was actually the playable demo. Even better : this new Silent Hills was piloted by Hideo Kojima, the author of Metal Gear Solid, and Guillermo Del Toro, illustrious director. Norman Reedus was even the protagonist.
Suffice to say that the excitement was at its peak. Alas, the rest, we know it: Kojima San argues violently with Konami, to the point of leaving to found his own studio, Kojima Productions, recovering in the process Reedus to make him the hero of a certain Death Stranding. Even Del Toro will be an official character! But Silent Hills is simply canceled internally… And the frustration of the players is still present in 2024.
So inevitably, when one of the site managers starts teasing the saga at the last Game Awards, it has its small effect. For the little reminder, we are talking here about the Mexican filmmaker who was quick to to say, when he was awarded the prize for best artistic direction at the beginning of the month, that he adored precisely that of Silent Hill, “Hoping there would be a new game soon”. It didn’t take much more to motivate the crowds and give rise to many rumors.
Interviewed in the podcast Happy Sad Confused, Guillermo Del Toro was quickly asked about the question: why did you say that and is he involved in a new title? Alas, the man behind Pan’s Labyrinth doesn’t have much to say crunchy: his “teasing” was in fact just a small tackle to the Japanese publisher. “I just wanted to titillate Konami, because I don’t understand. It was so perfect, what we were going to do was so exciting”, he says on the show.
Del Toro therefore still seems annoyed, almost seven years later, and it is easy to understand. However, do we really have no chance of seeing the series again? silent Hill ? According to the insistent rumors, some of which seem well founded, Konami is said to have planned to resuscitate its horrific franchise with two mysterious projects. One would even be developed by a “prominent Japanese studio” …
By the way, since we are talking about Silent Hill and the Game Awards, note that it is during the ceremony that the creator of the saga, Keiichiro Toyama, accompanied by its historic composer Akira Yamaoka, announced its brand new software called Slitterhead : you can find the first trailer at this address.
